Always running...
Another packed weekend. Two weekends in a row have been very busy. This past weekend we were in Minot, ND for a family wedding. What an interesting drive it was on Friday. On our way, we stopped for some good old Pizza Hut pizza which we haven't had in years. Outside of Bismarck and our last leg of the trip, Maya has a major blow-out in the car. Let's just say, it was everywhere! Good thing it happened right by a small town that had a decent Cenex station. Dave and I were both in the men's room trying to clean our little girl. We finally made it to my mom's around 11:30 pm on Friday. What a long drive and night!
On Saturday morning, Dave and Maya met Dave's sister and family at the zoo. I decided to spend some time with my mom (okay, I went shopping). I guess Maya had a great time.
Later on Saturday, we attended the wedding. It is so sad that no one cares about Dave or I and only wants to see Maya. Well Maya was with my mom but we did bring her to the social hour/dinner part of the reception. Maya did great and Dave's family has really accepted her which means so much to us.

On Sunday, Dave got to spend his first Father's Day in the car. It was a long drive home as we stopped to visit with my Grandmother and then at my sister's. How can we not stop when we are driving through? Well we made it home safe and sound. It was a busy weekend but a fun one. Hopefully this weekend will be all about relaxation as we need it!

Food Crisis
The other night, we watched a news piece on BBC regarding the food shortages in Ethiopia. There are so many families especially children who are starving due to the drought and the soaring food prices. Many of these families live off of less than $2 a day. Can you imagine? Many families are either down to one meal a day or not eating at all. It makes us think how many families we met during our trip are in this situation.
We can not sit back any longer and hope that somebody else will lend a helping hand. Every dollar can help so we decided to rally some good girlfriends and get a charity garage sale in the works. We were already going to have one so why not make it grand and donate 100% of the profit to help with the food crisis. My friends are on board so here we go! We don't have a date yet but I will post when we do. If you want to help, please contact me. We would love any support possible from donations of any kind, to spreading the word, and in helping us find the best charity possible. We want to touch as many lives as we possibly can. Again, every dollar will help.

Red Letters Campaign: Blog Buzz - Why Ethiopia?
RLC is launching a new intitiave to blog on a new topic each week. The question of "Why Ethiopia?" is still the one question that we get when introducing Maya to new people. The answer varies depending upon the acquaintance, but this blog entry will allow me to look back at our entry in our blog on this exact question months prior to meeting Maya (Nov 30th 2006). I must admit that even today, it isn't something that can be explained in a rational manner. During our research of both domestic and international programs, we felt a strong pull to Ethiopia, it just felt right. I imagine that the great care of the children provided by CHSFS, the amazing people of Ethipia and a very rich culture and history were key factors that made this decision feel right.
On the original blog entry in our FAQ's we mention that Ethiopia is where our child is, now after meeting our amazing daughter, I cannot stress how prophetic that statement was. She is the most amazing and beautiful child and her personality brings joy and happiness to everyone she meets, every minute of every day.

Maya at the Lake
We had a great time at the lake this past weekend. This time around we decided to spend Saturday night. Maya enjoyed being there but didn't like the idea of falling asleep in the camper. After I failed miserably at getting her to sleep, Dave laid down with her. Over an hour later and around 10:00, Maya finally gave in and went to sleep.
Earlier that night we had dinner at Zorbaz with our friend Wade. Maya loved the experience, loved the pizza, and hated the macho nachos. It was her first trip to Zorbaz but not her last!
Before heading to the lake, Maya joined Sebastian in his dog kennel. Poor Sebastian!

Maya fell asleep on the couch in the camper after exhausting herself by crying. She got her finger pinched in the door. Isn't she cute?
Later on Sunday and at home, Maya played with daddy's cap. She is no longer a baby but a little girl.

Great movie! I highly suggest every female out there to go watch this movie. It will make you laugh out loud, cry, and be thankful for the girlfriends in your life. I was lucky enough to see the movie on opening night with two friends. We had a blast drinking cosmos beforehand, standing in line 40 minutes prior to the movie starting, and of course the movie. A big thank you to my friend Kimberly and her husband Greg for buying our tickets 2 days in advance. I will definitely be purchasing this movie on DVD.
Next post - Maya. We had a blast at the lake this weekend. Can't wait to share photos.
