ND Adoption Celebration

This afternoon Maya and I attended the ND Adoption Celebration.  Maya did really well overall considering it was during her nap time.  At the event we saw many familiar faces and our friends the Anderson family won the Multicultural Award!  Each child received a stuffed lamb and an ornament.  On the ornament is a wonderful poem.  Here it is:

A feather from an angel
is one we rarely see,
and this one is quite different,
and special as can be,
This feather is a reminder
of a special kind of love...
one of a forever family
and blessings from above.

Happy Adoption month everyone!

Oh My

The other night I attempted to take some photos of Miss Maya.  Needless to say she did not cooperate which seems to be the norm these days.  For some reason she would rather take the picture or run towards the camera than be in it.  Please tell me that is normal!!!  Well here is my attempt.  She apparently now knows how to take off her top even though it has snaps in the back.  It is becoming impossible to keep clothes on this child.

Came Across These Photos

I was looking at my photos on my computer and thought I would post these to share.  These are pictures that the adoption agency took of Maya while she lived in the care center.  We were fortunate to get them emailed to us as we only had them in our paperwork initially.  Isn't Maya adorable in these?  It makes me sad that these are the earliest pictures we have of her minus her the referral picture but at least we have them.  I can't believe how much she has changed.

I've Been Tagged!

I have been tagged by Betty who is a friend we met through adoption.  We just love Betty so check out her blog.  Apparently I am to list 6 of my quirks so here it goes.

  1. I love shopping for Maya.  I have a hard time walking out of a store without buying something for her.  Even though I try, I still end up getting something.
  2. When I start something, I have to finish it like my digital photo books.  Once I begin the book, I have to finish immediately no matter what.  I have a hard time walking away.
  3. Watching my favorite shows on television - I love to sit down on the couch and watch my favorite shows that I have recorded at the end of the day.  I seem to unwind better if I watch a little television.
  4. I hate to lose anything.  It drives me crazy when something is lost.  I immediate start searching everywhere for whatever is lost.  I have a sick feeling in my tummy when something is lost.
  5. I love my daughter.  I can't seem to stop talking about her.  She amazes me each day.
  6. I loathe laundry.  It seems like the never ending chore.  Once all the laundry is wash, folded, and put away the process starts over again.

Now it is time to tag two other people.  I tag Suzi and Kerry.

Rules: six quirks, no tag back, link to the person who tagged you, and leave them a comment to let them know you've tagged them.

Adoption Children's Books

On Sunday we attended our first adoption play group at a local church in town.  This group gets together once a month for a couple of hours.  The first hour the parents discussed various topics while the kids played and the second hour was social hour.  One of our discussion topics was adoption books.  I thought I would list them in case there is anyone out there reading my blog that is looking to purchase some.  I thought these sounded great and hope to build my collection over time for Maya.

Books:
It's Okay to be Different
Love in Dry Season
Over the Moon
Are You My Mother
I Don't Have Your Eyes
We Belong Together
Your Bellybutton
What I Like About You
Tell Me Again About the Night I was Born

If anyone knows of others, please share.  I would love to add to my list.
